In the second game of the CBA quarterfinals, Shanxi faced defending champion Guangsha at home, missing a golden opportunity to advance after a narrow 81-86 defeat. Having won the first encounter, Shanxi needed just one more victory to reach the semifinals. Instead, they fell short by five points, leveling the series at 1-1. The decisive third game will now be held at Guangsha’s home court, with the winner advancing and the loser eliminated.

From the opening tip, Guangsha, playing with their backs against the wall, came out aggressively and shot with confidence. They took a four-point lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was tightly contested, with both teams trading blows, though Guangsha edged ahead by another point. At halftime, Guangsha led by five.

The second half remained fiercely competitive, but Guangsha’s early advantage proved insurmountable for Shanxi. Despite their relentless efforts to close the gap, every push fell short, and Shanxi ultimately couldn’t recover, losing by five points and missing their chance to seal the series early.
A deep dive into the loss points to one player’s dismal performance: Shanxi’s import guard, Nate. Starting the game, he offered little on either end of the floor—struggling offensively, defensively, and as a playmaker. He was essentially a liability, piling up fouls and turnovers.
In just 17 minutes and 56 seconds of playing time, Nate shot 0-for-3 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, finishing with three points and three rebounds. He also committed three turnovers and four fouls, posting a plus-minus of -7. His lack of contribution not only failed to help the team but actively dragged them down, frustrating Shanxi’s hopes.
With the next game moving to Guangsha’s home floor, Shanxi has squandered their best chance to eliminate the defending champion. Advancing to the semifinals now appears an uphill battle.
